  • Did Lil Wayne have others write the Carter IV for him?

I'm not trying to start trouble, but I am curious. I've spent the day tagging all my mp3s and resetting playcounts and what not for my iPod. During all the time I spent cataloging info, I kept noticing the writing credits.

What struck me is that there isn't a single song on the album that doesn't have multiple writing credits. I was under the impression Wayne wrote all his own raps, or as the legend goes he doesn't write at all. Same thing goes for Tha Carter III. I'd understand if the co-writing credit was for songs with other rappers with each getting credit for their own verses, but this is for every song even those that are just with Wayne going solo. It looks like Mack Maine is getting writing credit on 6 of the 15 tracks on Tha Carter IV and he isn't featured at all.

Anybody care to clear this up for me? Did I miss something?

Whoa, I'm not one of "these ppl posting these threads". Well I suppose specifically I am a person posting a thread, but I'm not in anyway related to the craziness going on at the moment. I have a legitimate question, is any part of my post unreasonable? I was just asking a pretty straight forward question.

      -- edit --

Very weird to be refereed to as one of "these ppl" by someone who hasn't been here as long as me. Granted I didn't rack up 1,000 posts in my first 6 months, but you'd think it might get me the benefit of the doubt.

Since when did posting a well written, thoughtful question with links to the sources end become the "ultimate spam"? It is kind of funny how a reasonable and somewhat obvious question can be met with such skepticism by the fans. I ask why there are writing credits for multiple people on the CD I just bought and without even acknowledging the question I've twice been accused of spam. It's an interesting defense mechanism. When something you love is challenged, it must be a SPAMMER! But I'm not a spammer, nor am I trolling. I'm simply a Lil Wayne fan like you who had a question.

I've done a bit of googling myself. Outside of a few questionable references to having a "team of ghost writers" and some accusations by Gillie Da Kid I couldn't find anything so that's why I came here. Usually you guys seem to know what's up when it comes to Lil Wayne but I'm guessing I've stumped you guys? I was hoping there was some explanation behind it, but judging by the responses so far I'm guessing there isn't one. Kind of disappointing. It's not like I'm going to sell off all my CDs and empty off my iPod. I still love the music. I was just hoping there was some sort of explanation out there.

Thanks TheRealJoseph for being the first and only user to have taken the time out to actually respond to my question respectfully.

Producers are also credited under "Writers"

don't know why Mack Maine got a lot of credit, he probably helped with some shit, you know he's the president etc...
THIS AIN'T NOTHING TO RELATE TO.

                  Thanks for the response.

I wondered that too, but in the links on Wiki they have a separate column where they list the producer credits. Would it be normal to have a producer and give them a producer credit and then have others tweak the music and give them a writers credit? Seems a weird way to go about it. Give a producer credit, but then give further producers writers credits.

Thinking about it a bit more, it may sound like a cop out but maybe they're present when he's recording. Like Mack Maine pops in, laughs at a line and tells Wayne he has to keep it in. And somehow that counts as a writing credit? I know it's a stretch, but you're right about Mack Maine being the prez. Who knows what that entails.

Sorry about that, I had assumed you were like the first response I got. My bad. I had no idea about the picture, something obscene I'd guess?

Exactly, he's such a selfless guy, the real greatest of all time. He didn't even want paid for writing it, just a kiss
