Tha Carter II, it's that easy!. That was the peak of his maturity. He was about everything he rapped about. He was hungry for it and he ate everything on the mothafuckin plate. He was on that real rap shit. He fucking hated being mainstream at that time too. Even though he went mainstream, he was still himself, still the same rapper we all knew, and he didn't give a flying fuck about anyone. He didn't act like a fool, and he wasn't surrounding himself with a bunch of clowns. I loved his wordplay on Tha Carter II (although, I feel his lyrical skills were the best on Tha Carter).

But I also liked and miss the Hot Boy$ era. They were putting out some real quality shit back in the day, and they were like one big family. At that time, he didn't even care about fame or even becoming a famous rapper, he just needed the money. Tbh his raps were so much more interesting during the Hot Boyz days than they are now, mainly because he wasn't talking about pussy in every line of his verses. Sure the stuff he talked about can get old quick, but it's better than hearing about boring shit like how much money he uses to wipe his ass and how well he can eat/fuck pussy lol. And I'm not gonna lie, his raps were much deeper back in the day...they had meaning. Whether it was how tough life is in the N.O. or how much he misses his step-father, you could always kinda feel for what the fuck he was talking about. More people can probably relate to growing up without a father or growing up in the hood, than they can to blowing money on materialistic bullshit and eating pussy 24/7 lmao.

tough to say...99 was sick when he first got on the scene and few knew him but you knew he had potential. then watching him grow and getting mature lyrically is fucking sick. After all said and done, probably 2007.
