Everybody thought that only black people could rap, and then some white kid named Marshall shows up and blows everybody else out of the water. That's why he sold so well.

Maybe one last thing on this "if Em was black"-thing: you can't even imagine how his career would go if he were black, because a lot of his songs are about how no one believed in him cuz he was white and the shit he had to go through becuz of his skin color... so if he was black, he couldn't rap all that stuff and you have NO idea if the crowd would have liked them other songs... cuz for me, it's just those battles and his hard youth that inspire Em and it's that that captivates me... just my opinion...
