This past Friday (June 12), California Superior Court Judge Michael Mink denied a motion made on behalf of Lil Wayne to prevent Digerati (QD3 Entertainment) from releasing a documentary titled The Carter in its entirety. The documentary is said to contain “private and sensitive” material that is believed to be damaging perhaps to a pending legal investigation. The court denied the motion citing the evidence presented by Wayne’s attorney was not strong enough.
According to AllHipH0p.com the whole dispute centers around “Lil Wayne’s reputation and the value of his identity can be diminished by an unauthorized use of his image and persona, or by association with a movie or purported ‘authorized’ documentary that, in reality, does not meet with his approval and depicts him in a negative light and/or engaged in criminal conduct.”
Wayne has been trying to stop the release of the project for quite some time and previously filed an unsuccessful injunction to halt distribution. Despite a lawsuit aimed at cutting certain scenes deemed a “scandalous portrayal” of the rapper without his approval, the film was later screened at the Sundance Film Festival to critic acclaim.
Lil Wayne’s camp is claiming that Digerati is in violation of breach of contract, fraud and invasion of privacy claiming the The Carter’s producer, Quincy Jones III refused to give Lil Wayne the agreed upon approval of the final cut of the feature. source
