(NewsCore) - DETROIT -- As rapper Lil Wayne performed in Detroit Saturday night it appeared the reasons for him to keep working were mounting up, after the IRS hit him with a $5.6 million tax bill.
The performer, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, paid off a $1.13 million federal tax lien in December, according to The Detroit News, but the new tax bill was filed against him Monday in Miami.
The bill is for income taxes from 2008-09, with the lien filed against the rap artist's Miami waterfront mansion, which is for sale for just under $13 million.
Lil Wayne served time in a New York prison last year after being convicted for criminal possession of a weapon.
The news follows a report last month that the producer responsible for several of Lil Wayne's hits is suing the rapper's record label, claiming he is owed more than $20 million in royalties.
Darius Harrison produced Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" -- a No. 1 single on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and the Grammy winner for Best Rap Song in 2009 -- as well as other songs on the multi-platinum album "Tha Carter III."
Harrison's lawsuit against Young Money Entertainment and Cash Money Records alleges that he is owed more than $20 million in unpaid royalties on songs that have collectively grossed more than $70 million, entertainment news website TMZ reported.
