With the anticipation for Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV continuing to grow, SOHH recently hit up Young Money artist Gudda Gudda to get the inside scoop on what listeners can expect to hear.
Promising big things to come, Gudda said Weezy's delayed LP will live up to fans' high expectations and serve as a proper follow-up to 2008's Tha Carter III.
"I think it's going to be big and I'm not just saying that because he's my homie," Gudda Gudda told SOHH when asked about the delayed project. "I'm just being honest. I think it's going to be big and it can match up to what Tha Carter III did. The expectations are really big and it's going to be really big for hip-hop when it finally comes out." (SOHH)
Gudda Gudda also gave props to other rap crews for the efforts to elevate hip-hop.
"I ain't going to say hip-hop ain't exciting right now because it is," Gudda Gudda added. "You have people like Eminem and Shady Records making a lot of noise. You have [the artists on] G.O.O.D. Music making a lot of noise. Maybach Music really came out of nowhere and is making a gang of noise. It's very exciting right now but I think Wayne's getting ready to put that sh*t out there that we need. It's good music. He's going to drop that album and it's going to get crazy." (SOHH)
Recently, Lil Wayne revealed Carter IV may be his final rap album.
The Young Money leader also revealed to XXL that he plans to retire soon and hints at C4 possibly being his last offering. "I'm bowing out still on top," he says. "I'ma make y'all want me when I retire. I'ma make y'all be like, 'Nooo!' I ain't leaving out this b*tch when y'all be like, 'Yeah, it's about time, dawg.' Carter IV might be my last one. I'ma make y'all be like, 'F*ck!' Yeah, n*gga, I'm gone." (XXL Mag)
Despite leaking weeks prior to its June 2008 release, Wayne's Carter III managed to sell over a million copies in seven days.
With opening day sales figures of approximately 223,000, the album sold 1,005,545 copies in its first week in the United States. With its first week sales, it is the largest first week sales for any album in 2008 in the United States and the first album to reach the million mark in one week since 50 Cent's The Massacre in 2005. To date, Tha Carter III has sold over 3.5 million copies.
Tha Carter IV is slated to drop August 29th.
