Dwight Howard made his long-awaited appearance in the charity basketball exhibition circuit last night by inviting current and former Orlando Magic players for a one-nigh only game for the fans. Taking place at the University of Central Florida arena, the packed house was treated to a good show that was catharsis for a fan base missing their superstar center.
But the highlight of the night did not belong to Howard, Gilbert Arenas, Jameer Nelson or the likes of former Magic players Mike Miller or Steve Francis. The night belonged to Penny Hardaway, the former Magic guard and Nike icon. He was introduced to a huge ovation by the fans, who probably haven't seen or heard from Hardaway since he left Orlando in 1999.
Dwight Howard made sure to keep the Penny love going by claiming that the Orlando Magic should retire Penny's number whenever the NBA season does start up. That got a positive reaction from the crowd and turned out to be a pretty humbling moment for Penny. The departure all those years ago wasn't really on the best of terms and it's good to see that both sides are cool with each other now.

Penny was also getting headlines for the shoes he was rocking. The 1 of 1 "Memphis Blues" edition of the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP made an appearance for the game, but Penny wasn't the only one who had the new hotness. Celebrity coach Lil' Wayne was also in the Zoom Rookie LWP, but he had on the more common "Binary Blue" colorway.
