Weezy Tells All In Our Dec/Jan Issue - Nylon Guys

Weezy Tells All In Our Dec/Jan Issue

Lil Wayne didn’t die back in 2013, when his epileptic seizures had the press yapping about his imminent demise
, but as he tells NYLON Guys, he is “the last of a dying breed.”

No argument here. As longtime fans of his style, swagger, and inimitable way with words, we’re beyond excited to announce Weezy as our Dec. 2014/Jan. 2015 cover story. The piece was penned by NYLON Guys contributing writer Jeff Weis, who landed behind the drawbridge gates of Wayne’s Miami Beach palace and got the straight scoop about this idiosyncratic rhymer’s life and times.

Discussing what keeps him going, the mega-selling rapper said it’s not about having a hot song or keeping people interested on Twitter and Instagram. It’s about what it’s always been about: the music.

“That’s all I do and all I know, 366 days a year, 25 hours a day, eight days a week,” Wayne says. “This is my life and what I breathe … This isn’t something I do. It’s who I am.”

As you might expect, Wayne had plenty to say over the course of his NYLON Guys interview, and below are some of his choicest quotes:

    On Heeding the Call
“I was always ready for the call. That’s the best way to explain it. Wayne’s always ready. When it’s my turn, I make way more than the most of it. If you’re ready when they call you, and you make the most of your time, then they’ll never stop calling you.”

    On His Process
“I’m just a regular street n____ that’s a little smarter than the rest. I rap whatever comes up in my head. Whatever rhymes with the next word and how I’m feeling. I start rapping and we find something within what I just said and make a song out of it.”

    On Weed
“I don’t know how it works, but I know that I need weed…extra when I’m creating. It helps in a major way.”

Keep an eye out for the year-end double issue, which hits stands on Dec. 9, just in time to get you hyped for Wayne’s hotly tipped 11th album, Tha Carter V, due out sometime this month.

I would hope so, cover stories are usually more than one page.
