I know they've done it plenty of times but the protests have never reached this magnitude. Finally something is happening, I doubt this administration will do anythng about it but this moment in the US is historic. This is gonna start some form of change, it will probaly get worse before it gets better though.

maan everytime Wayne speaks on this it seems like he doesn't give a shit but I can see why, he's been rich since he was 17, drugged out and living in his own world, what do u expect?

I still hope we get to hear those 30 songs with Tory
    Blame ourselves ????? That’s not wrong ???

Awww excuse me for being a black man in America thts a target for blames....

    Excuse the fuck outta me

I think that's fair, he definitely let Dre and Kevin Hart lead and mostly just agreed with whatever they said. I couldn't tell if it was due to limited time and having other issues to get to, or because he didn't want to disagree. Now Jay Z out there personally calling to ask for arrests in MN. J Cole is protesting in person. When I initially heard what he said I hoped he meant to say something slightly different and more defensible along the lines of what Kevin Hart said and it just came out horribly wrong. I hope he listens to the words of people he looks up to like Dre and Jay Z and experiences some growth on this issue. It's hard as a fan to see his genius and forethought limited to music especially when he has addressed these issues before in his music. It's hard that normally his authenticity and not giving a fuck what others think is what makes him so unique but in this circumstance it is backfiring and working against him

Tory was in a win win situation. He was on Wayne's show acting cool with him them to get a little clout and exposure and then he did the right thing on twitter to address wayne's stupid comment. Smart asf

I wouldn't say that but it's not the worst thing he could have said. he could be talking about people not protesting on this magnitude much earlier. no need to get mad i'm just trying to see Tune's comments in a positive light.

Wayne always sounded self aware when he rapped about black issues in his music:
Hollywood Divorce, Georgia Bush, Amen, Tie My Hands, Misunderstood, Heart Races On, etc

And even outside of his music he got interviews where he's all like fuck George Bush.
And there was that time he spazzed at some white dude at a basketball game because the guy bumped into Wayne, and Wayne said he was gonna leave because he's black and didn't want to put his hands on the man.

I don't know what happened. Its like in the last 5 years he just disconnected from his blackness and became a full blown coon.

If he trying to appeal to white folk then he need to stop because all he doing is hurting his own fanbase. Most white people that agree with what Wayne says admit that they don't even like his music so its not like he gaining a lot of fans by pandering to them.

I can also agree with this, he can be jumbled, incoherent and in his own world. I hope he meant different, at first I honestly thought his comments were majorly misinterpreted because he didn't express himself as clearly as he could have but on second listen it doesn't sound good. I would love to see Wayne make a big public gesture and/or a genuine well thought out statement. Does anyone think he will take another stab at addressing this, or just ignore the backlash (or double down)?

Yeah that would make no sense. I am a long time fan, I am white, my work intersects with racial justice and I have attended BLM events in the past. (Currently moving so hard to attend any protests rn). Statements like this hurt my heart, I want to know exactly where he stands and see him using his stature for progress even if he is not completely sure what that looks like

yeah it honestly sounds like he doesn't give af when talking about it. I don't think he's even gonna know that it was backlash on his comments soo I wouldn't expect no response on it.

It hurts as a hardcore wayne fan man.... I love/will forever stan him as a musician, and I empathize with his mental health struggles... but what happened to him to make him so disconnected from his ethnicity?? cause yeah he's brought up black issues in his songs before so why he gotta be disconnected in interviews hmm

I think you are right. Although I find it hard to believe he wouldn't eventually hear other artists are shading him.

I feel like it goes much farther back and is a form of internalized oppression

"when I was young, I used to cry because I had dark skin
Martin Luther King gon' slap the shit out me when I die"

                          Sad af.
