Sorry if this sounds dumb, but why does one need a DJ to host a Mixtape? Why can't Lil Wayne do an independant one? I thought No Ceilings was an independent one but someone said it was hosted by DJ Drama.

Wayne doesn't mix . master.blend. create his own beats. and spit lyrics..... Sure I suppose he could have a mixtape with 12 different producers but then A. it would be a shit ton of work on a mixtape. B. might owe royalties if their orignal songs or some sort of shit. C. it's a mixtape, usually they are collaboration projects by underground artists, and a dj.. how mixtapes got started and what a mixtape really is.
