I would agree that message isn't EVERYTHING but I think songs with messages like some of Pac's stuff, Lupe, some stuff from TI etc carries more weight than a pussy/money/weed song. Unless your in the mood for those songs lol, but y'know on a general level it displays more MCing skills to discuss deeper, grittier subjects and still have punchlines and a good flow to back it up.
