'Lil Wayne had multiple women on the go when dating me – I needed years of therapy'
Lil Wayne's ex claims he had multiple women on the go when they were still dating "on the down-low" – and only years of therapy helped her get over it.
Self-help guru and author Vanessa LeMaistre was working at The Hit Factory recording studio in New York City – where everyone from DJ Khaled to The Eagles have recorded their iconic tracks – when she first bumped into the rap megastar.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Star about her experiences, Vanessa explained: "I’d never been starstruck, so it was the perfect job for me. I was working the front desk and I never cared who came through.
"Lil Wayne would make little comments and walk by; his driver was like, ‘You know that guy likes you?’ and I was like 'What?! Okay.' I didn’t make a big deal out of it."
But Vanessa eventually left that job and started making "six figures" working bottle service at a club in the city that Lil Wayne frequented.
"He remembered me from the studio," she confessed. "We exchanged numbers and from there we were dating for 10 months on the down-low."
But dating a rap superstar wasn't always easy.
She revealed: "He used to tell me, ‘Vanessa, I am a superstar’. He could tell it didn’t get through my head because I was never starstruck. I just viewed him as a regular guy.
"It was intense for me. He’s Lil Wayne, so of course he’s going to have different women for different days who he’s with.
"I had to see a therapist for a couple of years and they were like, ‘Vanessa when you start really healing from this, you’re going to realise that was not the best dating situation for you, mental health wise.’
"Now where I’m at, after being on this self-love journey for so many years... Wayne knew I deserved better, in that song he says you deserve the best, because that treatment is not something I would condone today from anybody.
"I’m completely monogamous, I don’t want somebody who’s dating a bunch of different women. It’s just not my preference."
Vanessa went on to reveal that one of Wayne's songs is about her – and it was his way of telling her she was special.
That song is How To Love, whose lyrics include: "See, I just want you to know that you deserve the best / You’re beautiful, you’re beautiful /Yeah, and I want you to know / You’re far from the usual, far from the usual."
"Wayne was actually very intuitive and so he knew things about me that I didn’t have to always share with my mouth," Vanessa said.
"[When he wrote it] we were separated and no longer together, but seeing each other from afar. It was impactful for me because at the time I was seeing a therapist and I had just realised all my trauma from sexual abuse.
"It was so intense and there were times I would cry hearing it, because it just hit my soul on such a deep level. In one sense it was positive for me, because he was mentioning I was different from everybody, and I was rare.
"He was with so many women, he dated so many, so for him to say that in the song... I was like, 'Wow, I can be different, and that's fine'."
