No but the total sales does mather. I'd rather have an album with 600k first week sales and 5 mil sales in one year then an album with 1 mil first week and 3 mil in one year.

But this year Wayne has the highest sales for a rap album.

And if ur talking about eminems recovery album, dont forget that he promo the FUCK outta it, I mean both his singles had atleast a 100 mil in a month.

Well he had highest first week sales for a rap album in the us, but apart from his first week sales he hasn't maintained that as Em sold more WW first week and more in the U.S. second week etc but I rather quality than sales anyday!
