Wayne really needs to work on becoming more worldwide

For an artist like Lil Wayne who could quite possibly be the biggest rapper in the USA right now, his sales outside of North America are terrible. Being Worldwide is a huge part of being a superstar that we all want Wayne to be, he needs to start breaking out.

I'm posting this thread because I don't understand why he's not that famous outside of America and Canada. His songs are worldwide are they not? It doesn't make sense how all these artist do better than him in other markets though. Agree/Disagree/Comments?

Agree, I think he knows what he's doing. He tried to reach outside with Rebirth but it didn't work out that well, but he at least is aware. This song 'How To Love' has crazy appeal, I'm sure it will give C4 the attention it deserves everywhere!

Yea, I mean the amount of people that don't know about what Wayne actually does over here in the UK is stupid. In some kind of odd way I don't want everyone to know everything about him and all his music, I guess in my mind it kind of makes it all a bit more special to me, but of course I want him to be the best he can...

He does need to try get a bigger world wide audience but as you say, he knows what he is doing. Still many years left in Wayne, who knows what the future will hold.

The European market for music is very different from the american one. A large amount of american releases are not released in the UK. For example how to love has not hit UK iTunes yet. Moreover, the amount of money spent on advertisement outside the US is much less for the majority of artists. In addition to this music tastes outside America do vary quite a lot, for example rappers like snoop dogg have never achieved a number one hit, in the Uk, despite their status as rappers.

TL;DR- Rap just isn't as popular outside America and the amount of money spent on marketing American rap to europe is far less than the amount spent on marketing in America.

I haven't heard a single thing on the radio or on TV about C4 over here in london

i have seen Lil Wayne on a indian channel tht only plays asian tracks., on a Jay Sean track so he is definately world wide.

This is a good post, thanks for the insight. There are still a few rappers who do have quite a bit of success in the UK though, and I feel like if Wayne even tried a bit (like maybe did a mini tour there) or went on a talk show there it would make the world of a difference. It's easy to like Wayne's music, I'm sure if he tried harder at being worldwide he could be. He has all the traits of being a superstar in any country.

However this did put more perspective, it makes more sense now as to why he may not be as big there.

everybody knows who wayne is out here in the UK, yet nobody listens to much of his solo music, all of his features come out and go big, heck even drake and nicki are huge out here, yet its like YMCMB hasnt bothered with the UK when it comes to wayne.

And you say about all the different kinds of music etc and styles, yet Drake, Nicki, Wiz Khalifa, T-Pain(heck he seems bigger out here than he does over there!), Snoop plus a lot lot more all get in the top 10, yet wayne has had like 1 or 2 top 40 hits and thats it lol

i wonder how popular he is in other countries ive never been to an other country to see
