I always wondered how Wayne was able to switch his flow from southern drawl Hotboy to Squad Up skills then finally Kill Carter. Most niggas thought it was Hova's Blueprint 2 that sparked the change in his flow.
I would've never thought Gillie would've been one of his key influences for the fact that his recent shit sucks. But as soon as i heard his shit for back in the day, it made me think twice. In one of Lil Wayne XXL interviews he mentions one of his influences from Chicago, Mikkey (Halsted). I listened to them both and realized that he is a product of their creative genius.
Takin from Thick's Interview: Gillie Da Kid (September 11, 2006)
"T: A lot of people didn't get to come out like this dude Mikkey we interviewed a while back.
G: Mikkey was different, you know, one thing Stunna failed to realize is that we all from different necks of the woods. We all do things a lil' different but you gotta respect the talent or we wouldn't be here. The whole problem with Mikkey is they felt like he didn't dress like them and he didn't look like them. So, he was different and he was an outcast and they really didn't know how to handle that. But now a lot of the stuff that Mikkey was on, now Cash Money is on. Like the wearing Polo button up shirts and they just want a nigga to wear jerseys everyday. Like that shit cool but we don't really get down like that. It was a lot of like real feminine bitch shit goin’ on around there that didn't really add up to nothing and at the end of the day the nigga knew Mikkey had talent. He knew Mikkey had real talent…talent where he might have to run Cash Money through Chicago and he didn't want that to happen."
