  • Kanye's effect on Wayne, and the importance of new slaves

im watching this sway interview and towards the end kanye mentions how drake wane and james blake are all good music in his eyes. how drake is making harder music now because hes being pushed, and it brought me to this thought that ive had since i first heard wayne on new slaves.

theres a certain energy to the music on yeezus. its aggressive, active music. in order wayne to live on the beat, the only way he could, is if he activated that sort of hunger. it requires that sort of mentality. otherwise, its going to be a dead piece of music.

w wayne jumping on new slaves, it shows w out a doubt. that wayne was feeling a ways in his approach to dedication 5. he was feeling active, he was feeling aggressive. he was after live, physical performances in a way that he hasnt been in awhile.

new slaves is like an introduction that feeling, that sort of reawakening, and through the tape you see evidence of that, you find that subtle aggressiveness on started and uoeno. its in your face on levels. its on cream. its why every verse on the tape was pretty much attacked, vs a tape filled w some lazy performances.

i see a lot of knocks on new slaves..

but i gotta say.. ill take a 4 star song that inspires a tape full of 5 star songs.

It's good to see and it was the same thing as well with Way I'm Ballin.

His energy and delivery on that verse

That was one of the last songs Lil Wayne recorded too

                      (sigh)

my point is, that if you can understand the energy it took to create the original new slaves,

then it gives u hint towards understanding what it takes to remake new slaves.

and that energy represents a new kind of energy and passion.

if wayne was feeling lazy, theres no way in the world he raps on new slaves.

in order to rap on that beat, and in order to even want to rap on that beat, you have to wanna be hungry.

so thats not only being hungry, but wanting to be hungry. and new slaves is the first hint of how how hungry he is on the tape.

especially when you consider that its not even the real beat, he wanted to rap on new slaves,
like so many of the other beats on the tape, that he didnt care if it was the official instrumental or not.

essentially, " i dont give a fuck, gimme some shit that sounds like it, and ill eat it up."

im not really arguing whether new slaves is a good song or not, im talking about the underlying intention of rapping on a beat like that, and the place you have to come from, and how that place was present all throughout dedication 5.
