“That’s my idol,” he says of Wayne. “Everything he do.” The influence is most obvious on Thug’s first mixtape, I Came from Nothing: there’s that familiar, nasal intonation on the vowels, softening and widening words so that, for example, “y’all” sounds like “yeow.” His priorities are different now, and so are the people he looks up to.
