When that song came out everybody was saying how sick that verse was lol. It's funny to see how different opinions are after not paying attention for a while.

i'm telling ya, trap brings out the worst in most rappers... especially ones who cut their teeth on old school beats like wayne. it forces rappers into these weird flows where they gotta be choppy as fuck... plus they gotta decide where they gonna hop on the beat - super slow or crackhead fast!
remember when chance the rapper said he was given an opportunity to make a beat for his d5 feature? so he said him and his producer made that new beat in order to bring the best out in wayne (because obviously the best hadn't been brought in a while). i was so happy when that shit was said, because it validated everything i been saying for years: wayne needs different beats and suddenly he can still rap!
his verse on "you song" was brilliant - the love bird shit line, the bathtub scene, etc. that right there was 07-08 wayne. their little experiment worked. need further proof? C.R.E.A.M., fuckin problems, IANAHB2 intro (second half especially), face down, believe me. those were some of his hottest verses in recent years and they all had steady, chill beats - not super slow weird-ass trap beats that make a nigga spazz the fuck out (and not in a good way!)Last edited by no_tom&jerry; 09-11-2014, 05:20 PM.

The one that made all the beats with that 'John' sort of sound, though he didn't produce that.
(John is sick though)

waynes always been able to rap really well on idk.. i guess what youd call good beats. beats w strong instrumentation.. the smoother.. almost.. really well produced songs.. but i mean.. thats what those beats are for.. just about anyone sounds good on those beats.
to me what always separated wayne.. was his ability to rap on mostly terrible beats. that i wouldnt bother listening to any other rapper on.. and making something out of it.
wayne makes something out of nothing better than any rapper ever. he definitely had a period.. where he relied on that stunted flow for too long.. lots of uninspired raps.. during the whole hashtag era..
but sayin wayne cant go in over some trap beats.. cant really hold up.. when hes got such a strong track record.. over mostly any kind of beat you could ask for...
also.. i mean w you song being the last song recorded for d5.. and the amount of work that he did on that album... over pretty much a compilation of the hottest beats over the past year or so.. along with just about every style hes used in the past.. 8 or so years...
id say its a stretch.. to say that a beat like you song.. is necessary to bring out the best in wayne.
i do prefer him over classier production tho..part of the reason why im not as high on no ceilings.. as everyone else.. watch my shoes and ice cream beats.. dont really do it for me.. break up.. im good.. mostly mehh as far as beat selection goes...
but when he got his hands on throw it in the bag.. he totally went in. so i feel you.. but def dont think you can pigeonhole wayne to anyo one style or sound.
especiall when his ability to attack everything.. is one of his stronger skills.
