  • YM marketing on this whole thing...

YM's new marketing philosophy for C5:

    "Let's forget about over-hyping a weak release and let's UNDER-hype a strong one.
    "

Wouldn't that be a dope marketing plan on YM's part? Let the music talk for itself. This is my theory about what's going on. Finally, Wayne and his label are taking a less tacky, more artistically respectable role, like Kanye (who delivers his product on the date come hell or high water). The other thing I'm hoping - and I know it's a long shot - is that all of the singles released so far have just been teaser tracks and the album will be 100% fresh material.

I actually like 3 of those 4 singles (don't like Krazy, I think that's absolute garbage - everything that i hate about new wayne. it's IANAHB2 level shit), I just want something MORE. I'd be happy if every single track was produced by Mannie Fresh and Wayne just snapped on those old school beats. What a beautiful way for the Carter series to end.... FULL CIRCLE.

((NOTE: Yes, this is technically about C5, but I am not posting it in that C5 thread, because have you looked on there lately?? it's a total mess and I want people to actually see this and participate - not just move on.))

all they needed to do was release a lollipop/how to love type of a single a month before the release date

i thought i was pretty clear....

basically what i'm saying is: maybe this time they don't care about success of a single or hyping the album like usual... maybe this time they are just going to let the music speak for itself - and hope that it's good enough to turn some heads. i also went on to say that i hope mannie fresh produces the whole album so it's like full circle from carter 1. it would def work in wayne's favor because he's the most beast-like when spitting over old school beats IMO.

maybe there is no lollipop/how to love type single... maybe the whole thing is just straight up gangsta rapping and this will be lil wayne's masterpiece. maybe this time he decided not to cater to anyone else but himself. maybe he chose the final tracklisting himself and told tez to fuck off this time. whole lot of maybes. wishful thinking probably, but whatever.

          you might be right

it might have a poor first week in sales

but if the music is dope i am sure it would go platinum quicker than it might of done if the music was average

yeah i hope they finally realized that first week sales is a stupid thing to strive for when you're putting out sub-par product. look at how much thriller or dark side of the moon have sold over the years - 25 milli numbers! - and they sure as hell didn't do it in the first week. if wayne puts out something of enduring quality, a legendary album, it will sell forever and ever.

Yes but maybe they don't CARE ANYMORE. Maybe they don't want to be focused on sales sales sales anymore and they want to stop letting people down. No hype = less disappointment. Imagine if this is just straight bars with some sick hooks thrown in. Imagine it's the workhorse weezy from days past just spitting fire for 70 minutes and actually making a real statement instead of the usual crap he's been doing since he got out of prison. his features lately have been absolute fire. grindin, dusse, believe me... all good stuff too.

YM probably realizes that wayne in 2014 is not what wayne used to be. it doesn't mean as much anymore and now they are in a position where they have to re-earn our respect. i think IANAHB2 was a turning point.. it had to be! lol

Wayne's resurgence has been like watching rocky train for his big fight. he busted his ass to get it back to where it was... and while it might not be perfect, he is definitely delivering SOMETHING DECENT now. i also find it hard to believe that wayne would have tez pick the tracks on such a key release... this is carter fucking 5 here yo. he must have played a bigger part in the process, because not only is it his swan song, he said in that interview about how this one means so much to him etc. how could it mean so much to him if he didn't know which songs were going to make it?

You're right but accept the fact that Weezy changes his style in every album he releases!

yes he does, for better or worse. his style of late is definitely better than the post-prison years, but i'm fantasizing that he will just quietly drop a fucking mind blowing BOMB in all our laps. i hope he treated this project with the respect it deserves. C4 was an absolute letdown and it only got worse from there. I want him to reclaim his title - and we all know which title that is.
