Ion't think it's about "not liking" so much as it is not giving him his respect and his due, then using their platform to trash him without judging him properly. Which they're paid to do. All the while praising inferior artists because they're "in."

Lil Wayne, Drake, Chance the Rapper, Skooly, Rich Homie Quan, 2 Chainz.

which shouldnt really matter at all since you are just a fan of his music and any hate doesnt affect you socially or financially, it only affects the artist lol. Your not part of his team, ur just a fan.

I kinda respect Anthony Fantano's opinion on music....if it isn't on Rap, Hip-Hop, or R&B artists, for example. He deliberately uploads what would usually be seen as unlikely favorable video-documented and recorded reviews doused with opinions that are otherwise antithetic to what would be entailed as hipster and hypebeast bandwagoner material.

Especially as it pertains to Urban Contemporary Solo Acts as well as Collectives. "If You're Reading This, It's Too Later" got an 8.5 out of 10 while "Take Care" received a goddamn 6 out of 10 from him. He said he'd rather listen to an entirety of a Young Thug-dominant project like "Rich Gang: The Tour Part 1" and "Barter 6". I downloaded the newest Trinidad James project that he claimed was better than "Sorry 4 The Wait 2".

Couldn't get past the second track. Controversy heralds so much attention and associated press for them; positive and negative, but mostly positive. These guys make a living by being libelous and/or mandating slander with their smear campaigns and faux-sting operations in the form of a vitriolic diatribe. It's how they make a living. This is nothing different.

I'd hate to sound like all the whining pacifists, but there's money in acknowledging all of Wayne's inconsistencies as opposed to someone like Kanye West who can do no wrong (All the while, if you ask the general consensus that makes up a noticeable percentage of his very own fanbase, they'll all tell you he's obviously regressed drastically since the eminent release of the groundbreaking Avant-garde Hip-Hop Masterpiece that is "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy). But with critics, it's a completely different story. Same way with how "Complex" had an agenda against Wale. Nothing new under the sun, man.

I agree with a lot of your excellent points. However, as an ardent Kanye fan, I believe that he is not infallible and critics too are beginning to see that (read a Pitchfork article recently entitled “Kanye is about to drop a brick… and it’s going to hurt” or something like that). I hope that isn’t true, because I consider Kanye to be the closest thing we have in these times to the Beatles in the 1960s – sounds absurd at first, but think about it. Who else now has the ability to make critics and public swoon in unison with every release, while simultaneously advancing the sound of popular music with literally every single release? There is not a single Kanye album that did not vastly enhance the sound of music overall. Even 808s and Heartbreak, his low point to many, shaped so much of what we hear today.

Incidentally, I believe MBDTF to be his masterpiece, but I do not consider Yeezus to be a step backwards at all. In fact, I consider it to be a massive leap forward; not necessarily a “better” album (what constitutes “better” anyway?) Yeezus was the polar opposite of MBDTF. The earlier album was ornate, lush, maximalist and a warm rejoinder to what hip-hop meant in 2010; a respectful genre appreciation exercise, but a giant progression for said genre at the same time.

Yeezus, on the other hand, was stark, rebellious and minimalist to the point that it welcomed comparisons to punk rock and industrial music. I believe Yeezus to be the more progressive and revolutionary album (and I also find it to be just as enjoyable as Twisted Fantasy – it all depends on my mood on a given day). Judging by his latest singles “All Day”, “Wolves” and “Only One” he clearly has something special planned, but I think a lot of people might be reaching their threshold with him now. I imagine it’s a lot of pressure too; Kanye is now expected to revolutionize music with every release. What an exciting, yet troubling position for an artist to be in! Who was last there? The Beatles!

Anyway, Kanye might be going the way of Wayne very soon… in the public’s eyes anyway. When the press and pop culture elite decide someone is “finished”, there seems to be precious little that can be done about it. It becomes a bandwagon started by a select few who are too cool to disagree with, therefore the hate spreads and the artistic injustices continue.

It's not just being a fan of the music, people are fans of Lil Wayne the artist, whichis why people read interviews and watch videos of him and follow him on twitter and are interested in 'Weezy Wednesdays' and shit like that. People feel a sort of connection to him, naturally, seeing as he creates music they love. So it irks us when we see people talking shit... not having an opinion, but talking unadulterated shite.

It's more than being a fan of the music for a lot of people. I'd say I like some of Eminem's music but I wouldn't call myself an eminem fan. I'd definitely call myself a Lil Wayne fan.
