  • Wayne should be Wayne more. Not future or thug

It's a weird tape. FWA was my fav this year cos I like old school mid tempo beats. I think it brings out the best Wayne. This time around I heard the first few tracks and by the time "my name is" was over I was like damn this is some drought 3 style shit!! He's flowing he's chill he's making me laugh my ass off......

but then hen gradually every song turned into a future/young thug flow. His lyrics are really fucking solid too which makes it even more frustrating. I'm up to track 17 now and I am not even expecting anything else at this point other than a young thug beat and flow. Honestly it would surprise me at this point. He's way into this style right now for better or worse.

that being said, I think this is a grower. It's a little jarring on first listen but there's a lot of meat on the bone here. There's even some songs in the middle where I marveled at how committed to this particular vision he actually is!! Big wings thru lil bitch.

Anyway im gonna finish this tape now. It's not bad at all. Just different. I feel like I'm at the point now where if I don't start liking the thugger future flow I'm gonna just be pissed off a lot. Haha. So I'm trying to be open minded. Hope some old school beats show up before the end.

BTW- the auto tune doesn't bother me, and the fake beats aren't the end of my world (I'm here for the rhymes and flow when it comes to Wayne) but the abundance of features bugs the shit out of me. Reminds me of D5 that way, and I never liked D5 too much. Only cream, levels and a few others

In a nutshell I basically said he is rapping great for the most part on this tape, like he has all year, but this thug/future flow has become his main flow now - where it used to be an occasional thing. He needs to stop trying to be them.

Tape gets better with time IMO. My advice if the thug flow is annoying u after awhile... Just listen to the bars. He spits fire almost the whole tape. This tape is interesting as fuck. All of our reactions remind me of FWA when it came out. So many people were convinced it was shit (not me) but most of y'all came around over time. I don't know WHAT THE FUCK gon happen with this weird ass tape. Lol. I'm diggin it right now tho.

You can never write opinions on a tape the day it drops because that shit hasn't even sunk in yet

Lol this dumb shit... Wayne was future when Future didnt exist now u all forget about the past?

Let Wayne use HIS flows in peace. Enjoy the tape its a blessing.

First off, the Eminem track is the closest thing to "old Wayne" if u wanna get technical about it. His rhymes and cleverness on that literally remind me of upgrade freestyle and drought 3 overall.

Moving on, yes Wayne did invent the heavy autotune funky crooning style that made future and them famous... But they did take it and run with it and now there's no denying that Wayne is influenced by THEIR version of that style. U gonna tell me "über uber uber uber uber uber taxi" is not a young thug line? Come on. That ain't Wayne (old or new) that would say that shit if other's hadn't reached that point already.

Anyway, I'm enjoying the tape but I just prefer the b2b, my name is style more than the future thug genre. I think most Wayne fans agree but I don't know. Whatever. Tape is hot as fuck anyway. Lyrically he is on fire most of the time. Very deep project too. He goes personal and deep on some of these jams

doesnt make sense to me to deny how future and thug have advanced waynes flow.. its almost a good thing.

it kind of reminds me of brasilian jiujitsu. you train under a black belt, the belts your receive are "under" that black belt. its a lineage.

future sounds like one of waynes black belts. young thug sounds like a wayne brown belt.

that said, i agree. i think wayne needs to spend time cultivating and creating his own sound. hes got to improve. his rap ability cant be questioned, but his songcraft has to reach another level, and its got to be signficant if we're talking relevance.

if youre okay with just listenign to wayne rap awesome, and not really contribute anythign important to the genre. i think tape is fine. wayne can rap. but if you want wayne to continue achieving things as an artist..then i think he needs to rethink some things.

While I can agree with some things you said the fact of the matter is Wayne could disappear for 6 months drop nothing himself and then give his us Carter 5 and then everybody else in the rap game is irrelevant because that album comes out. Everybody knows it.
