  • Tha Carter III 8 Year Anniversary Put into Perspective

Since it is the 8 year anniversary of c3, I wanted to share some thoughts about how c3 completely shaped the current hip hop scene of today. Today, it seems more and more people want to undermine the success that Lil Wayne has had and undermine his influence. It is truly sickening to me that he wont get his due credit (until after he passes) even though he put the game on his back for years and laid the foundation for how to succeed in the game.

Just to put the influence of c3 into perspective, I took a look at the top 100 songs on HotNewHipHop for the current week and the top 100 mixtapes of all time on the site.

The top 7 songs on HotNewHipHop right now are as follows.. 1. For Free (Khaled ft. Drake) 2. 4pm in Calabasas (Drake) 3. Champions (Kanye ft. Desiigner, Travis Scott, Big Sean, Gucci, Yo Gotti, 2 Chainz) 4. Back on Road (Gucci ft. Drake) 5. Pick Up the Phone (Travis Scott ft. Young Thug and Quavo) 6. One Dance (Bieber Remix).

    1. For Free (Khaled ft. drake): Of course, drake doesnt exist without lil wayne. Khaled went to wayne many of times to solidify sure hits. We Takin Over being his biggest, and Wayne's verse being the songs most legendary.
    2. 4pm in Calabasas (drake): drake doesnt exist without lil wayne
    3. Champions (Kanye ft...): Desiigner, Travis Scott, Big Sean, and 2 Chainz have all been directly influenced by Wayne. Desiigner and Travis Scott basically took his whole sound, Big Sean wordplay, and 2 Chainz I dont need to explain. Also, Kanye, one of the most respected in the game, said Wayne was one of the best rappers of all time.
    4. Back on Road (Gucci ft Drake): Gucci has also influenced a lot of today's artists and is similar to wayne. Drake doesnt exist without Wayne.
    5. Pick up the Phone (Travis Scott ft. Young Thug and Quavo): Travis Scott took a part of Wayne's sound, Young Thug is obsessed with weezy and took his style/sound, and Quavo completely took Wayne's 06-08 icey style.
    6. One Dance (Bieber Remix): Bieber said on instagram a year or so ago that Wayne is one of his favorite people on earth. Clearly Bieber is influenced by wayne. He has a ton of tattoos, and has been pictured smoking blunts and sipping Actavis! Not to mention he probably wouldnt be making remixes if Wayne didnt make that a cool thing to do.

The top mixtapes OF ALL TIME on HotNewHipHop are as follows.. 1. Sorry 4 the Wait 2 (wayne) 2. Purple Reign (Future) 3. 28 Grams (Wiz Khalifa) 4. No Ceilings 2 (Wayne) 5. 56 Nights (Future) 6. Slime Season 2 (Young Thug) 7. Tha Tour Part 1 (RichGang) 8. No Label II (Migos)

    1. Sorry 4 the Wait 2 (wayne): Number on of all time, deep/real lyrics about his current CM situation. Wayne fell off tho... HAHA
    2. Purple Reign (Future): 100% Wayne influenced
    3. 28 Grams (Wiz Khalifa): Has been growing dreads, covering himself in tattoos, smoking 24/7 and using the mixtape circuit to exploit his recordings. All Wayne influenced.
    4. No Ceilings 2 (Wayne): Whats understood doesnt need to be explained..
    5. 56 Nights (Future): 100% Wayne influenced.
    6. Slime Season 2 (Young Thug): 100% Wayne influenced.
    7. Tha Tour Part 1 (RichGang): 100% Wayne influenced..RHQ called wayne the GOAT and his biggest influence on twitter recently
    8. No Label II (Migos): Took Wayne's 06-08 icey swagger.

GIVE THE MAN HIS CREDIT PLEASE.

I could go on longer but I believe that is enough. Please share your thoughts.

He doesnt get enough credit. How he is currently being treated by the music industry (universal/CM/media outlets such as complex and HNHH) is disgusting. Complex and HNHH essentially said FWA was trash the day it was released! That is brutally disrespectful considering what he has done for the genre and for the simple fact that it is a great album

yeah niggas here overuse that tl dr bs
half the time I dont know if they being serious or just trying to get a laugh
like they dont realize its incredibly hard to attempt to start a thought provoking conversational thread in under 150 characters...
so they end up stuck with threads from kidcomet and bloodkin

as for the topic... hiphop is a what have you done for me lately genre as of late, and lets be honest here fam... Im a big ass weezy f fan and even I have to admit there was a point where a good wayne verse was few and far between.
add that to the fact that even when he was still killin everything it became popular to hate on wayne and you end up with him being the most underated legend in the game

I dont care what they think at all because its hot garbage half the time. I just hate that everyone is so quick to hate on the god. Such hating by complex and HNHH influences the opinions of the younger generation. You know how much money Lil Wayne has made HNHH? They should bow down every time they get a chance. I think one could make the argument that lil wayne solidified the foundation of active users that HNHH has accumulated over the years. Between 06-08 when hip hop blogging on the internet became popular after limewire, a lot of people went there for their weezy F. fix (No pun intended). They need to be less disrespectful smh
