what is the deal with the 'Open Safe' beat off carter v? wayne said himself that the dj mustard production would make c5 go double platinum even if it was the only song on there cause it's that good - https://www.lilwaynehq.com/2015/04/l...-meaning-more/

but i really dont see it and it looks like i'm not the only one, but there are people that love it. i think it proves most people think the same as me cause the album aint 2x platinum yet lol.

    discuss?

he said this in 2014 where DJ mustard was the go to producer for a hit, every song he did charted well because people loved his beats at that time, if this released in 2014 it would have been a banger

What Mnjaro said is exactly right.

I'm sure back when Wayne said this he wasn't expecting C5 to be released in 2018 lol.

same thing goes for the Beiber joint
i feel it would have been bigger if he would have released it in 2014

Wayne could have also been talking about another Mustard beat.
wouldnt be surprised if he recorded more

              no clue
i can guarantee you that Wayne has some bangers that should have been on CV
and a dope track that was recorded April of this year, should have definitely been on CV

DJ mustard produced a lot of hits:

                  Rack City - 7 on Hot 100
                  I'm Different - 27 on Hot 100
                  My Nigga - 19 on Hot 100
                  Don't tell em - 6 on Hot 100
I dont fuck wit you - 11 on Hot 100
Post to be - 13 on Hot 100
                  Needed me - 7 on Hot 100
                  Freaky Friday - 8 on Hot 100
                  Bood Up - 5 on Hot 100
                  Big Bank - 16 on Hot 100
                  Trip - 11 on Hot 100

                  Open Safe - 62 on Hot 100
^ If Open Safe came out in 2011-2014 it would have probably charted higher but it is still a good song

The beat is too aged, it needs an update

But I ain't feeling Wayne's voice on it anyway

The fact that the album ain’t 2x platinum yet doesn’t have anything to do with the song being shit lol.
agree with some of the others tho, mustard was hot af in 2014 and since this ain’t 2014 it won’t be big

Open Safe is one of my favorite tracks off C5, and certainly one of the most quotable. I even started a thread about it awhile back.. about how it don't get no love like it should. If we're gonna be serious tho, I feel like C5 don't even get the love it deserves around here. I know y'all mostly love it, but y'all given mediocre mixtapes more love than this. Perhaps it's just because the wait is finally over, and everyone is ungrateful and bitching about what's NOT on C5 (more bangers, Life of Mr. Carter, Side Bitch, etc) than what the fuck IS on it.

Back to Open Safe: Now I'm a old school fan whose favorite shit is DD3, D2, C3 sessions, C2, C3... take from that what you will... I pride myself on having a keen ear for Dope Wayne and Struggle-ass Embarrassing Wayne. I absolutely 100% put this in the former category without a doubt. And the latter category for the most part did NOT show up on C5, thank God.

So anyway, Ima go a step further than I did in my other thread: Open Safe is overflowing with some of the funniest, most 2007-ish lyrics on the whole record:

Classmates/ashtray ..... fuckin had a boat chase, nigga..... cut her legs when they was on my shoulder blades.... guess what? I'm coming back with the gauge...... I'm irate, nigga! 5'5" stunting like I'm 5'8"...... my new money gonna die of old age, nigga... walk it like you talk it! sashay, nigga!....... brains in the pancakes....

I mean, take your pick. Those are Drought 3 laugh out loud bars right there. And C5 needed those at the moment Wayne delivered them... plus the fact that he delivers them niiiiice, AND it's followed up by STSOR just keeps that old vibe theme running. Not into peak era Wayne humor? Open Safe's got bars that is hard af too:

snoop dog, murder was the case, nigga...... '96 Dom P I have that with corn flakes and I never been intrigued by the patterns on snakes... I capitalize off my own mistakes, you lower case nigga....... I stick her hands in the fan blades.... knock all the white out, no racism, that's cold. homies -- pump that bass.....

Even just the way he pauses after he says "homies" on that last one, and how he does it all on the offbeat. Open Safe is a low key virtuoso rap performance, and to be dead honest, I don't see how any self respecting Lil Wayne fan can not like this track. You don't like Mustard? Fair enough. I actually dig this beat, but I appreciate if you don't. However -- and this a BIG however -- no one here can claim Wayne didn't go the fuck IN on this track. I just gave you like 20 of the funniest, hardest bars on C5. Bar for bar, Open Safe is mad heavyweight, and its presence on C5 is absolutely essential.

PS- I specifically did not mention the "suck the prototype" line that so may people thinks is fire, because I actually don't think that's nearly as clever or dope as everything I noted above. I wouldn't lose it, but I ain't gonna use it either -- like for examples and shit.

PPS- Almost forgot to comment on one of the original points of this thread. I never counted Open Safe as a hit or a banger of any kind. If anything, it seems like a track mainly for fans. Maybe ya''alls expectations are just all fucked up over it. Appreciate it for the fire and vibes that it is.
