Hi all,
So for the last 2ish years I have been looking for an obscure Lil Wayne song titled "Put It On Tha Streets". I have mentioned this a few times on the forum, but I'm making a thread for it now, really want to find the song before the end of 2018 lol.
What We Know:
The first time I heard of this song is when I stumbled across the lyrics. The lyrics for the song have been copy-pasted throughout the web, but I believe the original source is here. The lyrics show that it is a short song - an interlude, with a verse from Lil Wayne and a chorus by both Birdman and Lac. The album it is listed for on the post is "Lights Out (Import Edition)", which made me believe it may have came from some alternate pressing of the album for regions outside North America. I reached out to the person who wrote the lyrics via e-mail with no results, and also reached out to Lac, again no response.
After some more digging, @hawth33 and I came across this blog post. In 2013, a blogger based out of Sri Lanka put up the album for download, and based on the tracklist, the download had the song (track 14). We reached out to him via Facebook, Instagram and Google+ but no response. Finally, yesterday, I found his work e-mail and reached out. He responded, basically saying that part of his life (blogging) is past him and he doesn't think he still has the music, he said he will check though. So based on this, the song was available for download for a small period of time in 2013.
In 2017, hawth tried to buy a foreign copy of the CD. These copies did not have the song, perhaps due to only early pressings having the song. Check that thread out for further reading
Yesterday, while searching e-bay, I came across this listing.
It is for an official Cash Money shirt for Lights Out. It is not a vintage piece (see the copyright info in the 3rd picture) and the back has a tracklist. The tracklist has "Put It On Tha Streets" as track 9 - in place of the skit on current versions of the album. Cash money has been releasing merchandise for all of Wayne's albums with this style lately, with art on the front, CMR logo on back with a tracklist, I have seen one for C1 and own one for C2. Based on this, I think it's safe to assume Cash Money still has this song in their official album listing in their data base or whatever. Additionally, this gave me a new theory. What if this was a situation like "Playing With Fire" and "Pussy Monster" where the songs were swapped a week into release. With Wayne not being as big back then, and the internet being a lot smaller it would make sense it went unnoticed, and would explain why Cash Money used this "OG" tracklist for the shirt.
I reached out to the engineer of this album (Ray Seay) and he did not remember the song, but told me there were multiple scrapped songs from this album, and they are vaulted at Universal.
A few other sites have listed the song as track 9 or track 7 on the album (which is interesting in comparison to the Sri Lankan blogger, who had it as number 14): link link link
So that's everything we know currently. Any new information, leads, ideas or the song itself would be appreciated
