yeah..... and im aware thats a controversial opinion BUT hear me out

C4 disappoints me for a number of very big reasons whilst IANAHB2 is just a fun lil side album with some pretty good bangers that ISN'T a entry in one of the most important rap album series to date

reasons for disappointment include but are not limited to the following

    1. it being a carter series album means it needs to meet some core pillars which it didn't
    2. following C3 one of the greatest albums OAT huge expectations existed only for it to be pretty damn trash in comparison
    3. beginning of the decline in terms of quality/substance/creativity
    4. post jail hype this was a big return album for wayne since the projects he released before this one were the experimental REBIRTH as well as the side album IANAHB1 this was a big deal wayne dropping Tha Carter 4 he needed to do something prevalent and special but he just didn't
    5. comparing it to other albums that released in that year from other artists the lacklustre-ness of it stands out even more
    6. awful production
    7. great features being put on an interlude/ontro on a pretty garbage beat with no new wayne verse??
    8. a number of questionable bars/some of worst in his career which had no place on C4

now i know its a controversial opinion from the outside looking in because looking at the track-listing there are a lot of "gems" right? how could an album that has 6 foot, john, nightmare be considered "bad"

but lets look at C4 with a critical eye as a cohesive start to finish album its easily the worst in his career just based on the gravity and magnitude of what this album should have been and what it represented

    BEST SONGS
6 foot 7 foot being one of my fav songs ever there are also a couple of gems on there like nightmares of bottom, how to love, john, president carter, Mirror , she willbut when we compare these songs with the rest of his career they simply aren't anywhere near the top and are pretty trivial in comparison

    AVERAGE SONGS
average songs for me are megaman, im good, blunt blowin, abortion although good bangers they have pretty boring ass beats as well as some flat bars and no substance at all the songs themselves are fine they are just mindless head bopperz and as i mentioned previously when compared to the rest of waynes catalogue they aren't that great and can even be considered bad

    BAD SONGS
lets also not forget the awful songs on there like intro, how to hate, so special which are easily some of the worst in his career full stop

    C
4 falls flat on its face on many of the things it attempts to do and the style and bars are very clearly lazy and the songs that could be considered "good" simply don't compare to the rest of his career it had pretty big shoes to fill and it didnt feel like wayne was even attempting to match or surpass the prev entries and im not a dusthead thats always like i neEd oLd wAynE back but he needed to do something creative, vibrant, interesting but instead gave us a flat sell out record

Definitely the most disappointing but I still find it deeply nostalgic. I love some of the songs like Abortion but the album just felt somehow insubstantial. Like more of a commercial type of album. The instrumentals were disappointing and shallow and the fact that Wayne isn't on every track is unforgivable. I remember believing there had been some mistake, couldn't believe he would have left himself off tracks on his own album. Now I understand how his projects are put together so it all makes sense.

2 shots, up up and away, novacane, pres carter all tracks i still enjoy but they were mostly bonus tracks... thought nightmares, 6'7 and she will were decent too but overall prob one of my least favorite

i feel at the time we were all quite young so thats why its nostalgic for us i was like 15 or someshit at the time lol so i didn't really know better but looking back at it i feel its aged so poorly whilst something like C2 or C3 is timeless sounding

exactly what you said the album is shallow its strange cause the SESSIONS had some pretty impressive creative songs and the vibe given off by those sessions differs hugely by what we got as a final product

"Megaman and Abortion have boring ass beats" Can we have a mod close this thread. C4 is the best produced wayne album in the 2010s....if you think c5 production was better, you should really listen to the instrumentals

How about you do us a favour and close your mouth instead

C4 beats r most basic ass skeleton boring beats in existence

                  - - - Updated - - -

They are generic as they come only 6 foot 7 foot was unique and ofc thats only song that has left a lasting impact

Same goes for John as well

It's clear you're looking for something different in a beat. Yeah most of C4 'bangs' but there just isn't much to them. They feel like pop songs. Even though its a banger the John beat was the most generic hip hop beat at that time, every rapper had a song with a beat that sounded like that. It was ridiculous back then.

I love the Abortion beat though, since the original version.

Not even that. Nightmares of the bottom, so special, and how to hate are great beats and they don’t necessarily bang. They’re big tho. Wayne at this point in his career should only touch big like beats considering how big he is. He’s huge but touches beats he shouldn’t. And if not big wildly creative.
