  • The Original "Dedication"

So as we all probably know by now, "The Dedication", the first mixtape in the classic series is pretty much a re-release of the Young Money mixtape - "Young Money: The Mixtape Vol. 1".

    As far as we know:
    - YM: The mixtape dropped in Feb 2005 with no DJ Drops (except one DJ Drama tag on the song "No Problems" at 2:45 - random)
    - Even though Drama isn't present on the tape or named on the front cover, Wayne name drops him a few times on songs such as "Rest In Peace" - as if he has some association with the tape
    - "The Dedication" dropped in Apr 2005.
    - All songs on "The Dedication" (besides the skit and 'Please Say The Baby') appear on "YM: The Mixtape"
    - DJ Drama edited some of the songs to remove features, and change some beats, and obviously added his own tags

    BUT TODAY...
I was looking at the old YM site through WayBack Machine and noticed something very interesting. From Feb 2005 to around October 2006, YM: The mixtape was available for download through the site however, the artwork was slightly different:

The title of the tape, instead of "Lil Wayne Presents - Young Money: The Mixtape, Vol. 1", reads "DJ Drama Presents - Gangsta Grillz XXIII: The Dedication"

Now this raises a few questions. Was the YM mixtape originally called "The Dedication" Why was it re-cut and re-released, thus changing the original's name Why has Drama never spoke about this when speaking about the history of the series If this is Gangsta Grillz 23, what were 22 and 24 I know Drama used to release tapes as a series but could not find a list. I'd imagine this would fuck up the order of the subsequent tapes.

as far as music all i've found on there is YM: The Mixtape and Lil Weezy Ana
but i doubt those songs would be there as they are leaks
This is the official YM site from way back, so i'd imagine they would only highlight officially released songs

I remember somneone had posted images of the name of the song and the literal day it was released, almost like a list of the songs, though it might have been just for leaks though. Either way maybe by finding that again we could use it? And no I'm not talking about the feature one. It might've been in one of the posts Leaff deleted before the tracker came out

Do you think he still has that? I think that's an important piece of Wayne history

Wow first and foremost phenomenal detective work homie, this is a piece of history! And to answer the question, my bet is Drama decided to repackage YMTMV1 as The Dedication and originally he just had the original artist change the text on the cover but somewhere down the line he was approached with the legendary vector cover that we all see today and he ran with that instead.
