FYI- I can always appreciate quality Wayne lyrics even when the flow ain’t for me. And of course I recognize that his lyrics on Funeral are mostly on point. It’s the flow that can be too much for me sometimes. But then again I’m old asf lol

Wayne is like the sports team who won crazy championships 10 years ago and then tanked. But you love the team and you always root for them because the flashes of greatness are always there. IMO, D6/6R was like an undefeated season ending with C5 which was that underdog team winning one more championship ten years later!
.......
Personally I’ll always stick with Wayne and root him on as a fan no matter how many games he wins or loses, because I appreciate the vision even when I disagree with shit personally (not that it matter. I mean who the fuck am I, right?) But I’d prefer not to wait another 10 years for an undefeated championship season, that’s all.

Re: “yeah yeah yeah yeah” I think it’s just a vibing thing. I’m sure I’ve heard other rappers do it these days, and I feel like they did it first. So it’s another example of Wayne imitating his own imitators. It was actually the only part of C5 that really annoyed me. But it was also a clue that Wayne redid most vocals on that album weeks before it was released. True Wayne heads knew that just by hearing the flow and how close it was to D6 at times, but if there was any doubt the “yeah yeahs” laid it to rest.
Re: C4, yeah I take mad shots at that album because it was hot trash. I loved it when it came out........until the first time I went back to C3. Hahahahaha. That’s when I was like this nigga fell off fr. Shit was boring asf. I was still too blinded by his hype when IANAHB1 came out before prison. But that’s actually when the fall off began. S4TW1 was actually the closest to 05-09 Wayne we got in terms of passion and hunger until S4TW2 and/or FWA (depending on your preference).

Now most of the post-C5 features and Funeral I won’t say that team is back to losing miserably like before...... but they just sorta getting by. Average season. The star players are still highly skilled experts (hence songs like Mahogany, few others) but the team ain’t playing all together and clicking like it should.

its just an album guys, you heard the man he recorded over 70 songss specifically for this album, wayne sounds different whenever he wants hes just half inspired.
i think the new albums sick but have we really had a break from wayne since 2014. weve had so many projects, leaks, features and mixtapes whatever we can see hear a kind of non stop slowly growing progression to his sound in most part based around the other artists around him he claims not to listen to but has spent years listening (he uses the same flows so he must listen to more than the beat) and rerecording the most popular beats, i kno wayne be in them clubs fucked up bobbing his head to all types of shit.
All this trap shit which I really fucking love but a lot of people fucking hate, especially hip hop fans which is in way how wayne got his foot in from 2007/8 as a proper lyricist so thats why we all hold onto this but now all this trap shit, its how wayne is learning and adapting his style and he actually, in my opinion can do it pretty well even if its not what everyone wants to hear, the thing is everyone wants to hear trap shit, the masses n shit but not many people want to hear wayne doing it apart from a portion of his fan and the fringes of the hip hop world, most publications will pay there respects with new shit and review it from a contemporary view and most dont obsess about old wayne.
How does a 37 year old man become his 24 year old self. He doesn't. Does it feel like he's regressed and more immature now then he was 15 years ago, lyrically, literally...yes it does. does it matter, no. you have to either look past it and embrace his music and hope he can find the exact same pocket that made him great, who knows but it isn't likely anytime soon with the way he releases music and without changing his lifestyle. Its not as if any of us know him but his life is well documented and not being weird we all have a pretty good idea about how he appears to be doing and it isn't very well.
I think theres a lot of bangers and clues to there being a even better bigger album but his team and music management is beyond trash, imagine if one of us could listen to the archives and his recent output and just pick the best songs because we all know damn well they do not end up on these albums. Probably got 3 or 4 of the top 30 out of say 80 for funeral i bet. We just have to wait for a more suitable phase of wayne for whatever your into, who knows when hes 45 he'll drop a jay-z typa 444 album of something...who knows. this was cool but so constricting for wayne but what kind of artist at waynes level who is supposed to be ranked with jay z, kanye, eminem, kendrick whatever is not curating his own entire album. its crazy. wayne needs to take a two year break i think the world needs that.

Imo current wayne is definitely leaning towards CV/D6R kinda rapping, and certain songs on funeral agree with that. Funeral overall was just fun and it's too early to judge if that's how all his (non-carter) albums r gonna be like from now on. Though I do agree his management is trash and he needs a new team ASAP. But that's not gonna happen probably so we just gotta, like you said, pray wayne takes care of himself and gets in the right mind to make his non-carter works a (bigger) hit (cuz personally I like funeral/free weezy/etc but most casual fans dont)

Yeah I agree with a lot of the last two posts. I’d even go so far as to say Wayne lyrically right now is still in that D6/C5 pocket. It’s just shoe-horned more into trap beats. I strongly believe C5 came out not when the bogus legal problems were resolved (never happened, trust me) but when it was public and fan base tested to perfection. Is it a coincidence that the album was shelved when Wayne’s first few C5 singles flopped? And that it was unshelved (with much re-recorded) in 2018 when D6 was his best received work yet? Many publications and definitely all of us was saying it was his most lyrically proficient release since NC1. Remember?
And why does the album open with a song whose flow resembles Vizine almost identically? (Don’t cry)
C5 was focus grouped for years— only most of y’all didn’t realize you was being focus grouped.
Anyway, Funeral is a tedious listen with all these similar sounding beats and constant mumbling auto tune. But it’s 100% still in the lyrical pocket of D6 and C5. Just tweaked differently to appeal to Wayne’s current passions, which is always what’s popular wit the kids. Lol.
Even though I can’t stand 75% of the album’s music I will absolutely go on record that it’s top tier lyrically in the post prison Wayne landscape with the previous two releases. I think one tier down are FWA and SFTW2.. and the rest is below those. Doesn’t matter the order of the bottom heap.
Wayne is as much of a rapper now as he ever was, believe it or not maybe more so, but he tires easily of the same old. And his lyrics have always just worked a bit better with room to breathe so ppl could appreciate his wordplay and vibe. It’s like a comedian with no timing or nuance rushing through his hour long set in 20 minutes. It just don’t hit the same.
