A man from Canada falsely claimed he had the coronavirus on a flight from Toronto to Montego Bay, Jamacia, forcing the plane to turnaround.
28-year-old James Potok told Global News in Canada he was trying to go viral.
“Well, I had my camera with me. I was looking to get a viral video. I was looking to get it up on all the social media platforms," Potok said.
WestJet Airlines said 243 passengers were on the flight.
The plane returned to Toronto and the airline canceled two more flights that were headed to Jamacia as a result of the incident.
This apparently isn't the first time Potok has tried to pull a stunt like this on an airplane. He said he flies often, looking to create viral videos.
“I pulled my phone out. I made a viral video and got up. I said, ‘Can I have your attention? Can I have your attention? Everyone stopped and looked,” he told Global News.
“I said, ‘Lil Wayne’s new album just dropped. Everybody go get it.’ No problem with that — sat back down, landed. Everybody got off, no issue. Any publicity is good publicity for me."
Potok admitted that he ruined the flight for the other passengers and that what he did was wrong.
Potok was arrested and charged with mischief and breach of recognizance, according to the report.
