The average person does consume mostly new music. That's why Billboard's album chart is mainly new releases. And Billboard chart includes streaming so it's accurate to what people are listening to. (Streaming is also how majority of music is consumed now-a-days).
Obviously on a site dedicated to Wayne more people are going back and listening to his old stuff, same would be on KanyeToThe with Kanye, but the everyday person is streaming whatever is in Spotify's new music playlist.

not true. He's been consistently going up every year. His album from last year is one of the top 50 best selling albums this year. Even his mixtape this year with Chris Brown produced a top 10 single. And his song with Travis is expected to debut within the top 3. People been saying this about Thug for years and it's simply not true.

Took it almost a year to go platinum AND ONCE AGAIN IT WAS THE BIGGEST ALBUM OF HIS CAREER. Carter V went platinum in 2 months. It will not ultimately surpass Carter V in sales. Wayne is a legacy artist. Thug is not nor will he be.
Not "hating" just pointing out the absolute objective reality that these 2 artists are not in the same league.

Thug's album was not "here today and gone tomorrow" and people are playing it.
It is the 47th best selling album of 2020 and has sold 550K copies in 2020 alone. Keep in mind it came out in 2019, and yet is holding steady in 2020. It has sold more units than many 2020 albums including Funeral. It has stayed relevant a year in.
Now let's talk about Carter 5. Carter 5 sold 1.5M units in just under a year (Sept 28 2018 - Sept 7 2019)
So Much Fun sold 1.5M units in just over a year (Aug 16 2019 - Sept 2 2020)
And So Much Fun still going strong. So yes, it is close to surpassing. A hot start doesn't guarantee it will stay hot. Tbh "Here today, gone tomorrow" more represents Wayne's latest solo release than Thug's.

THE FACT IS Wayne's numbers > Thug's numbers and this will always be the case. Arguments don't matter when objective measurements are there. So Much Fun was Thug's biggest release of his career & his only NUMBER ONE ALBUM EVER and still had lower first week sales than Funeral.

I actually think the vast majority of people listen to way more old music than anything recent. Only people I know who are always listening to the latest stuff are like 17/18/19 year olds, i.e. the current young adult generation. There's no way that there are more people listening to recent albums than the past 6 decades worth of 'pop' music, let alone classical music etc.
