  • Drake ft Jay Z - Poundcake vs Mr. Carter ft Jay Z. Passing of the torch(s)

Mr. Carter always is going to be a very IMPORTANT song in Wayne's discography, but Jay also did a similar thing on Poundcake. What song do you feel is the definitive "passing of the torch? And do you feel the same on Poundcake or am I reaching here?

    Reaching!

Mr. Carter destroys Poundcake on every level. I never saw Poundcake as a passing the torch type level.

      ^^

Poundcake just them rapping, I’d say Light Up is closer to Mr Carter in terms of “passing the torch”, but even then Jay playin more of a mentor on his verse

Agreed, Light Up would be closer to that.

A Star is Born came out in 2009, a year after Mr. Carter. In that song, Jay Z said if Wayne keeps going, he’ll pass the torch to him. He fell off after, and Jay Z never said he passed it

So you think Jay is still the best rapper?

Definitely not but what does that have to do with Jay Z not passing the torch to Wayne on Mr Carter, when he said the following year he might pass it, but he never said he did
