It's interesting you say that. I had a tough time likeing Wayne in the Hot Boys era and even around CII like Fireman type of tracks I felt like his voice was too high pitch.
When I decided to listen to everything in his catelog around that time and as D2, Drought 3, and all the CIII leaks started dropping I thought his voice was great with the southern drawl and scratchy sound.
As everyone knows that lead into his best use of autotune as well.
Since 2014 his use of autotune has been all over the place and his voice can be even more high pitch than ever like on tracks like All About the Money or S4TW2 tracks.
Lately his singing tracks have been harder to listen to like Happen to You and Aint Got Time.
I would love to hear a Wayne project now where "all i need is my voice, the beat, and recorder"

His voice is 100% why i enjoy him so much pause it intrigued me first started listening to rap in general cause everyone sounded pretty samey or generic and wayne was the first with the tats and the vocal effects and weirdness and diversity that made me pay attention

It's both.

I don't actually think this is an underrated thing about him though. It's part of the reason people don't like the way he's been using autotune lately, it takes away from his natural voice.
