Yes, the album flopped.
139K first week isn't even a top 10 first week for 2020.
12 months to move 500K units is a long time. For Example,
Moneybagg Yo dropped in January 2020 as well, moving 66K first week - was at 751K by Jan 2021.
Lil Durk dropped in May 2020, moving 57K first week - was at 675K by Jan 2021.
Projects that didn't even drop in 2020, such as Young Thug's "So Much Fun" or Lil Uzi Vert's "Luv Is Rage 2" or Kendrick's "Good Kid MAAD City" moved more units in 2020 alone then Funeral did.
Additionally, even compared to the other legends, he did poorly.
Kanye dropped a Gosepl album in Oct 2019 and moved 264K first week and was at 500K by January 2020.
Eminem dropped in January 2020 and moved 279K first week, and by January 2021 was comfortably above 1 Million units.
Yes you can put Wayne against T.I., Jeezy, Rick Ross etc. to justify his numbers, but that's not his competition. He is a level above that. And should be competing with Kanye/Eminem as he has been able to most of the last decade.
Sales are extremely low right now since the bundle rule change. The best rap first week so far this year is Rod Wave with 130K. Although, I think there is a small chance he out preforms Funeral with his next release. His new management deal puts him with the same managers as people like Post Malone, Charli D'Amelio, 21 Savage, NBA YoungBoy and more according to the roster here. This could open Wayne to better features and promotion (although Funeral had a pretty standard promotion run). End of the day though, I think he needs to drop better music to move more units - which I hope this new label can help him do.

It did flop in a way.
It has no songs thatll stand the test of time.
No ones putting these songs in any greatest hiphop list of any year/era.
None of these songs got any kind of global status.
Its somewhat an underground album that only dedicated Lil Wayne fans will ever give a shit about.
So from a commercial stand point its a flop.

You thought the album was dope at first but because it didn't do "numbers"
now all of sudden that changes the quality of the album that you thought was dope?
I still love you though. <3#FreeColleGrove2
