when 2012-2013 wayne was running it felt like he lost a lot of his hunger and was making music for the sake of it however once he was critically slammed for his release of IANAHB2 and to some extent D4 he went hard again and gave us D5 and eventually started to rap with a bit more hunger with the release of C5 singles eg. Gotti, d'usse, krazy, believe me it felt like wayne although had nothing to prove wanted to make his retirement album truly special so he got back into his zone
then with all the label troubles it felt like wayne wanted it more then ever producing and giving us some of his very best work eg. FWA, SFTW2, DEDICTION 6 with some good/decent but still fire projects in between like NC2 in tune we trust EP and CG1 for example his feature runs were hard as ever dropping many memorable verses such as (for me personally)
mad, loyal to the soil, intro with dj drama, keys to the street, fat albert just as some examples
whilst in his label purgatory wayne made a lot of promises to us as fans that 'once his free of his label' he would be going harder then ever and unleashing project on project on us with even mack maine himself making these promises also but since then its all been pretty dry with minimal movements wayne was teasing a partnership with YMOVO and even with ROC through JAY Z but none of these things amounted to anything the only thing we've been given is a bunch of projects teased to us with only one really coming out FUNERAL which sounded so devoid of the hunger and maturity and growth that we saw across his 2015 - 2018 run so what do you think has happened behind the scenes? is wayne again just 'phoning it in' with no real drive or reason behind doing what he does?
