absolutely not and i say this with absolute respect for weezy (& with the same respect and sympathy for addicts everywhere)
i wouldn't want to be essentially a child star, missing out on natural parts of childhood/development due to early success/money (to some degree), and having seen addiction in the flesh i wouldn't want to be introduced to substances of that sort at an early age; and knowing how incredibly difficult codeine addiction is to kick (let alone survive), no, i wouldn't wish it on myself or anyone else (and i wouldn't want a birdman figure to potentially help make those things happen, along with the sexual assaults he orchestrated, as well as whatever else he's done that we don't really know about)
rich and famous, if i take away all those caveats? the thought's crossed my mind, as i'm sure it has everyone's. i want recognition for what i do—write, make music—fuck it, i want attention, but even on that count i'm not sure. THAT rich? THAT famous? as regards the latter, probably not. i can't tell myself i'd reject a sack of money if given the chance, though
following up on the thread itself, i'd also mention a common factor with people like keith richards, ozzy osbourne, nick cave, eminem, whoever—they eventually kicked the hard drugs, some admittedly later than others. richards kicked heroin in '77, took a bit longer for the coke, but if he hadn't i doubt he would still be here. same with ozzy, so out of his mind he was firing a shotgun at chickens and cats in his backyard... if his wife hadn't reigned him in, if he hadn't stopped, i can't imagine he wouldn't be dead.
that said, and this is getting morbid, i think wayne has time. i'll say again i have complete sympathy because i know it's not easy and you can't just quit. but yeah, if some of these guys had ups and downs with it and took a little longer than others (and some did; nick cave must have been 40 when he kicked H), then i could see weezy being fine. i obviously have no idea what he's going through or how he's doing, how he feels about it etc, but i certainly hope/pray that moment of clarity, or rock bottom or whatever it takes does happen, because of course we all want wayne around
