Song by Song review of Rebirth
Its my first review of an album so if I do something wrong just know that.
American Star = 7.5
Wayne raps at the beginning and Shannel smashes it. He raps about getting from poor to rich, his homeland and basically America. ''I come from piss pourin now I live in 6 story houses, now hows this? '' . It serves as a good intro and in a sense it is kinda like 3peat where Wayne just comes in and comes out all guns blazing and gets straight too it.
Prom Queen = 8.5
The lead single from Rebirth and well the one song on the album that has a video for it so far(promotion for this album has been crap) . Wayne sings about a girl which he knows hes better for but she doesn't not know that(we've all been there) ''waiting for the chance to get. To tell her im the one she should be with'' .
Ground Zero = 6
The beat is on point with Waynes rapping. He just rips the beat over and over without stopping but the song misses a substance or a point and is maybe more suited on a mixtape not on such a mainstream album.
Da Da Da = 7
Ok so the hook may have not been so creative or lyrical but it is very catchy and Wayne saves the song with a very good verse. Sadly thats the only verse.
Paradice = 9
Wayne sings about a girl who finally gets everything she wanted but finds out ''this ain't paradice'' . The song is great as it has a point and Wayne speaks about his life and how having everything isn't ''paradise'' which is something that we may not understand in our position . ''I have it all... but whats it all worth?''
Get a Life = 4
The song has quite a playful beat but it lacks anything lyrical. ''Fuck you get a life, man I got too much things on my hands to deal with all of you'' . The song turns gets worse as he sounds like hes between mumbling and singing. I don't know why this is on the album.
On Fire = 8
The beat on this is really on point to how wayne is singing. Though for a 4 minute 8 second track having one verse is not good. ''Shorty let me play up in that matchbox and shes on fire'' . Wayne uses clever play on words associated with the title creating a lyrically sound song. ''Shes hot as hell lets call her Helen''
Drop the World = 9.5
Ok I was gonna give it a 10 but Wayne choose to go the poetic type of way instead of just rapping '' Confidence is a stain you can't wipe off'' . The good thing is it worked well for wayne... The bad thing is this song is Lil Wayne ft Eminem and he isn't going to get a opportunity to be in a song with Em everyday. He really should have rapped. Eminem goes in on the beat and really kills it. You have to go back to that stuff over and over to understand what hes saying.
Running = 6
Wayne doesn't do much on this beat and its a disappointing because Shannel is soulful. Wayne redeems himself with moments of lyrical genius ''It feels like im running and life is the miles''. The song is just all over the place without a direction and its a shame because the beat was quite good.
One Way Trip = 6
So before listening to this song I heard that it has Travis Barker on the drums and Kevin Rudolf was also on it, Thus making my expectations quite high. Kevin Rudolf Delivers on the hook ''I'm falling down a landslide on a one way trip to you'' . Wayne has his moments of lyrical wordplay but most of the song sounds like he is just stuttering for a rhyme ''Kick her out and have breakfast like a motherfucker'' .
Knockout = 10
Finally! this song is probably the gem from the album. Wayne delivers very well on the song and he is able to keep it going for the whole song.''Hey Barbie, are you into black men? I can be your black Ken''. Nicki Minaj is the suprise package on the song and delivery on the hook is just great. Nicki then does her own thing and is surprisingly very good. Great song, one to have on repeat on your ipod for sure.
The Price is Wrong = 4
Wayne sounds like the lost jonas brother in this song that never made it. Repeating words too often is not a good thing(see DJ unk) and wayne does this often by saying ok many times and yeah yeah yeah many times. The song itself does not reflect what the rest of the album has and leaves a sour taste in your mouth after listening to the album(well except the deluxe version of the album).
So Over you - 7
Wayne starts it off from the bat with a good verse. The beat is on point with his attitude on this song and the electric guitar in the back sounds great. Shannel has her moments in the song other then that she is quite average. The song is ok but there is nothing in this song that will make you listen again and again.
Die for You - 8
This song has quite a long intro but when Wayne gets to it, it is a ballad. He pours alot of emotion into the song and it shows. I'm sure we have been here before and its great Wayne can relate too this. The lyrics scream emotion and pain and its channeled into a powerful song. Though with lyrics such as ''Bury me a G'' in such a song, I could only give it a 8.
As done by me Ryan
I didn't copy and paste this from somewhere else.
