EDIT: Thats what happens when you allow guests to view the forum without becoming members. Only 19 members online.

Word to that. That's what I used to do when I ran my forum back in the day. I'll put it through with some of the staff see whats up.

I put that suggestion in along with some others in the Headquarters thread a few days ago and no one responded but I really think doing that could help increase activity a little.

EDIT:

A mobile site would be really good especially for iPhone/iPad users like myself because sometimes this site can run really slow on an iPhone and myself and probably others too are always on the go so it would be a great addon.

Also maybe expanding into applications such as building a mobile site around this app.

EDIT 09/3/2010 : Or maybe just how you can choose to suscribe to a thread, maybe you can request to get instant notifications for a thread (like on Facebook) when someone responds to what you said, and when you create a thread you automatically get notified when someone replies.

EDIT: 9/5/2010: In order to get more members maybe we should make the forums visible to guests but when they click on a thread they are prompted to something telling them they need to sign up in order to view the threads. Because I've noticed theres always like 5 guests just browsing a thread and like 2 members (on average). When something big happens on here for example when everyone thought DIO7 was coming soon there was like 30 members viewing the thread and 150 + guests.

Yeah I'll hit Artille later and see what he thinks. I don't think it'll happen though. Danny likes people being able to see the forum. And he likes them being able to see the Downloads section so members know that if they sign up they can access it.

I mean allow them to view the forum but when they try to open up a thread make it so they need to register. So then this way they can still view the 10 post downloady thing.

I believe a mobile site is in the works, and as far as the first edit, that already exists. You have to go into your settings and you can have it set to Auto-Subscribe to any thread you make a post in, and then you can get instant email notification.

So since I have my setting set up to do that, the next time someone makes a post in this thread, I'll get an email. The draw-back is that in order to keep seeing the replies made, I have to view the thread.

And the current settings right now I believe is you can view 5 threads (might be 5 pages) and then you have to sign up.

I suggested the mobile app for the forums to the staff like a good month and half ago. Danny said he tried it but it didn't work or something so I dunno about that

Hmm..I dunno. To be honest I didn't like that app, the interface for it was weird, and it takes up space. A couple sites I go to on my phone have a full site and a mobile. One of them recently made it so if you were on mobile it would detect it and automatically take you to the mobile version of the site. (BlackBerryForums.com : Your Number One BlackBerry Community). Maybe Danny could get in touch with the Mod. there?
