I use a Samson Co3u. Once you get a pop filter and shock mount + know how to mix the quality is pretty good.
I've heard nothing bad about the Audio Technica's if you're looking to upgrade.

Use Cool Edit Pro 2.0
I record one or two takes and the do this
Center Wave
Very Fast Attack
Reverb (250MS, 10MS, 1812MS, 20, 100%, 35%)
FFT Filter - Mastering<Gentle & Wide
Graphic Equalizer - SpitClear
Parametic Equalizer - Loudness
Quick Filter - Bass Boost
Hard Limiting (-6.5Db, 1.8Db, 7ms, 100ms)
Hiss Reduction
Noise Reduction 2Db
Not the most professional sound but a good product for very little work.
For depth maybe record the verse twice and lay one over the other at half the volume.
My cypher verse was mixed like this so peep it to check the quality.

thats the mic i have and its great, you should keep it and learn how to mix, itll save you a lot of money, and cool edit is free just look up on youtube how to get it for free.

I use the AKG Perception 220 and at the moment Logic Pro 9 to record, however, i am planning to switch to Pro Tools
