  • Tyga's BET Interview.....

Tyga: Youngest in Charge By Nile Ivey, BET.com Staff Views434 Comments0
    BET.com: What’s on Tyga’s plate right now?

Tyga: I’m working on my album called “Careless World” and it should be out around summertime. We’re working on a couple singles right now and it’s basically like with Lil Wayne going away we have a lot of stuff planned. It’s going to be like back in the day when Cash Money had their run. They never stopped dropping music. And to me, we’re about to really get going because [we] have the content and the right artists.

BET.com: How’s the mood around Young Money now that Wayne is incarcerated.

Tyga: It doesn’t seem real to me, you know? I really can’t describe it right now, but it’s crazy. It just seems unreal.

BET.com What’s the set up like now that Wayne’s gone?

Tyga: We got it all set up and planned out. Birdman and Slim, they’re real smart guys who have everything mapped out. The Cash Money/Young Money boat is going to be just fine.

BET.com: How did you end up linking with Lil Wayne and the Young Money crew?

Tyga: A few years back, I met Wayne at the VMAs and we ended up performing together. And what was so crazy, I didn’t say anything to him until after it was over because it was a live broadcast. I told him I was extremely interested in rocking with them and we exchanged information and kept in contact after that. I would send him songs here and there, but I didn’t see him for another six or seven months because he was out on tour. Later on down the line, he flew me out to Atlanta to do some work and the first thing I recorded was a freestyle over his “A Milli” beat, which was two years ago. After that, he told me he wanted me [to be] part of the Young Money team and ever since then I’ve been traveling the world.

BET.com: Young Money is a crowded family. Describe the competition within the Young Money camp.

Tyga: You know what’s crazy, none of us look at it like that because we’re all different, you know? We’re all different. We all talk about different things so it’s really no competition. We mesh very well together.

BET.com: What’s the best advice Nicki, Drake and or Wayne has given you so far?

Tyga: Wayne told me that I’m in a whole different league now and that I’m not making music for myself. He would ask me what type of artist do I want to be and how would I get to that point. He always explained to me that the fans aren’t the same as you. Their mental isn’t the same. He always wanted to make sure that my fans are singing along with me and not just staring at me wondering what I’m talking about. When he told me that, I kind of figured it all out.

BET.com: What’s the experience like working with Nicki Minaj?

Tyga: Her success is well deserved. She’ll sit in the studio for hours and crank out material just like me. It’s kind of like everyone is getting their time to show people what they have to offer and all her hard works is paying off right now. She’s stepping up. She hasn’t even dropped her own music yet. It’s guest features right now for her. When she drops her own material people will really see what’s up.

BET.com: What can we expect from Tyga in 2010?

Tyga: I’m coming out different. People aren’t going to expect this type of album I’m about to put out. I put out a lot a mixtape and stuff of that nature, but mixtapes aren’t as worldwide as putting out an album or even a first single. It’s a lot of great music, man. I’m taking all sounds from all different parts of the country so it's going to be great. Wayne is on the first single, but I can’t give to much away.

BET.com: What was the last thing Lil Wayne told you guys before going in?

Tyga: I remember during his going away party last week he told everybody “hold this sh*t down.” Drake was like, “huh” because he said it so fast and Wayne said, “Hold this sh*t down.” He was just shaking everyone’s hand and kept repeating, “Hold this sh*t down.” It wasn’t a real big farewell speech. Nice and simple.
