      Re: Drake reference tracks

its like cheating on a song kinda if a artist has a dope song and doesn't realy have a spot on the record for it they could sell it to another artist like "fall for your type".. it was drakes song but then he sold it to jaimie fox r like i get lonely too.. r a artist could send a beat to another artist n pay him to do the whole song then just put his voice on the track instead of the artist he payed to do it.. i think thats how that goes

It used when a ghostwriter writes a song for another artist. He will then record a "reference track" of how the lines written should be said when/if the artist he/she wrote the track for records it. In most cases, the artist who did not write the song will actually listen to the other artist perform the lyrics on the "reference track" while actually recording the "official song".

The most famous "reference" track is the Notorious B.I.G. performing a song he wrote for Lil' Kim. It was noted for the fact that he actually said parts to the song that was homosexual for a man to say. The song was Lil' Kim's "Queen B****" that Biggie wrote for her. It was also noted, because he even did the ad-libs.

Reference tracks did not start getting released until as of late. In this day and age of computers, more and more "reference tracks" are being released. It looks bad on the artist though to have fans know he did not write the song. The reference tracks have started to be released though because it looks good on the songwriter for fans to know he/she wrote a song.
