After Katrina a lot of places were abandoned because the land they say on became worthless. It’s all a flood plain and insurance coverage skyrocketed. Plus there’s only so many restoration companies. It could have taken years to get an opening.
If he received a payout from insurance he wouldn’t have a mortgage, so all he would have been paying was taxes. Cheap taxes because the land and house had no valve. so no reason to sell. I’m surprised they’ restored it instead of demolishing it.

Birdman’s abandoned mansion in New Orleans. This mansion was loaded with multiple hot tubs, a 4 car garage, multiple dining rooms, outdoor swimming pool, and a balcony overlooking the living room. This place was incredible. Although mostly empty it was still a fun explore!
