This is my review of this amazing album. Buy her album!
I didn't listen to any of the snippets, leaked songs, so except for The Boys and Va Va Voom (heard Freedom once a month ago but had no idea anymore how it sounded). But I finally received my copy today.
So here is my track by track review.
Up in Flames: Begins very theatrical, like it's a gospel musical, kinda strange. When the electro rock/hip-hop beat starts coming in and Nicki starts spitting her raps the song gets a huge boost and sounds amazing. She's furious, goes hard as hell and the production of the song is surprisingly very good. Could've been on Kanye West's G.O.O.D Music album (Cruel Summer) and that's definitely a compliment.
Freedom: This song is a masterpiece. I don't know where to start. The opening, like that beat just grabbed me for the whole song, the beat is phenomenal. Then she starts rapping, drums are coming in and the song only gets better and better. The chorus is catchy and her vocals are beautiful, no autotune shit. This song is so epic, it's so good. It gives you every aspect of Nicki's talent. One of the best songs Nicki has ever made, it's undeniably amazing. Grammy material. Prove that she's the Queen of hip-hop. I have spoken.
Hell Yeah: After 2 amazing songs, this one is a bit disappointing. First thing that I thought is that it sounds like a song for the new Coca Cola commercial for the Olympic Games. Not impressed by Parker's vocals. Nicki goes hard in her verses but I didn't expect anything else tbh.
High School: Everyone thought this song was gonna be my favorite so I had high expectations. The beginning sounds like a flop R&B song. When Nicki starts her verse it sounds amazing, she goes hard and the beat is dope. The chorus is nice but doesn't really sound like Nicki. Someone compared it to Destiny Child and I agree with that. Wayne's verse goes hard as hell. Overall a great song with great verses, a nice, but not very original chorus and a ok bridge. Could've been better though.
I'm Legit: This song starts and all I'm thinking is like: Chaos. Ratchet. Full Speed. Nicki raps like a beast, this is amazing. Ciara is not annoying at all. This song is great, ratchet as fuck and on high speed. Awesome song.
I Endorse These Strippers: Exactly what I thought it would be. Beat sounds like I'm playing Mario, but is kinda catchy though. What I like the most about this song is that Nicki's rapping very dirty like in Freaky Girl. Welcome back Nicki Lewinsky, bye pop star. Tyga's verse is nice, Brinx is ok but nothing memorable. Aren't Sophia Grace and Rosie performing next week on Ellen.
The Boys: The Boys: Nice mix between rap and pop, although it's more hip-hop than pop. Nicki's raps are good but very short. There is more Cassie and that's very annoying because her voice is completely autotuned and annoying. When she starts singing I'm actually waiting till Nicki comes back. The chorus is very catchy though, just like the beat overall.
Overall this album is great, I'm proud of Nicki. She gained her respect back in the hip-hop community. Welcome back Queen Of Hip-Hop and I'm ready to get slayed by Pink Friday: The Pinkprint.
Up in Flames - 9/10
Freedom - 10/10
Hell Yeah - 6.5/10
High School - 8/10
I'm Legit - 8.5/10
I Endorse These Strippers - 7/10
The Boys - 7/10
Overall I would give it a 8.5/10
Oh.
Va Va Voom: This is shit. Super Bass was unique and sounded like a Nicki Minaj song although it was pop, this sounds like a Katy Perry song and is awful. Hate it.
3/10
