Nationally known rapper Mack Maine has agreed to spend three years on probation to resolve a 2013 Oklahoma criminal case.
Maine, 35, was accused of groping one woman and punching another woman on a tour bus after rapper Lil Wayne's concert in Oklahoma City on Aug. 21, 2013. He and Lil Wayne are friends.
He was charged in Oklahoma County District Court with a felony count of aggravated assault and battery and a felony count of sexual battery.
A jury trial had been set for this week. Instead, he reached a plea agreement with prosecutors and was sentenced Oct. 8.
Under the agreement, he was ordered to be on probation for three years and to pay a $45 fine, a $45 victims compensation assessment and $583 in court costs. Restitution was not required because he already had reached a private settlement with the assault victim. Prosecutors dropped the sexual battery count.
He did not plead guilty to the assault count. Instead, he entered a so-called Alford plea. The name comes from a 1970 U.S. Supreme Court decision. Under an Alford plea, a defendant accepts a sentence for a crime while still asserting innocence.
The outcome makes the rapper a convicted felon.
"He's glad it's over," his defense attorney, Tony Coleman, said Wednesday.
The attorney also said Oklahoma County prosecutors treated Maine fairly.
Prosecutors said the rapper punched the assault victim, Cailey Maddox, in the face, fracturing her jaw. Police reported Maddox was walking down the steps of the tour bus when she was hit. Police reported she and her friend were leaving because Maine had grabbed the friend's breast.
The friend told police she slapped his hand away and said, "What the hell do you think you are doing?" a police report shows.
Maine was charged under his real name, Jermaine Anthony Preyan. He lives in Georgia, according to court records.
