especially since "so far gone" was supposedly '09's best mixtape. in my mind, drake NEEDS to drop a mixtape before "thank me later". i think that his lyrics have been dumbing down as of late, letting his quick fame go to his head too soon, losing his humbleness appeal. now, i am by no means saying the man is out of talent, or anything along those lines.
but "comeback season", drake's second mixtape, is definitely his best; full of some of the sickest wordplay and most original lines i've ever heard in my life. i've read in a recent interview that he was having difficulties on developing his freshman LP, because the first album is supposed to be your hungriest. however, drizz has already reached a point where he can no longer rap about the WANT of being one of the greatest, because many already consider that a fact.
so basically, i'm just saying he needs to put out a fourth mixtape before his first studio album, reassuring the people who are fans of his SKILL and not just HIM that he's still not another hip-hop gimmick.
the last song i listened to (granted, i have not had a chance to listen to his newest three songs), which is called "zone" definitely gave me comfort in knowing that drake definitely has not lost his drive, but made me a bit nervous because of the recycled line he used to finish it ("top slipped off, like janet at the super bowl").
just a little rant. thoughts?
