IMO. They kept Modric instead of Alonso, because Modric is younger and is probably better playmaker than Alonso, and has bigger future with them than Alonso.. But, I think letting go Alonso was huge mistake. I don't know how much you follow Premier League..But Alonso was the leader of Liverpool, he won CL with Liverpool and he was a key to everything in Liverpool, once he left, Liverpool fell apart..

Alonso is the kind of player that is silent, and maybe even sometimes not that useful in the match, but just his presence makes team better, he was low-key one of the main R.M. players.. He left, and R.M. is falling apart (its early to say, but I'll still say it)..

Alonso is "the captain" type of player, he will fight and bleed for his team, Modric is a pussy (literally a pussy).

Alonso is one of the greatest passer in the history, his pin point short passes are the GOAT.

Modric does have better long passes tho.

But overall, I'd say Modric is better option in long term for R.M. because he is younger, but in short term, he is not. They should have kept both players.

Alonso in his best days vs Modric in his best days.. Alonso > Modric

Right now..it may be close, but as you will see probably in CL match if it comes to it (Bayern vs R.M.).. Alonso will prove that he is better than Modric even now..

I think CR future in R.M. is done tbh.. He won pretty much everyhing, he won La Liga and CL with them, and he is soon entering his 30s..so I think it might be time, next season, for him to return to PL and Man UTD
