I think you shouldnt tell him all of a sudden cuz he could be uncomfortable around you and you could even loose a good friend. But you should hint him somehow that you are interested. You will see his reaction so you will know without any unnecessary shocks. And the fact that he is your friend is good and bad. Good because you know how he feels and thinks so you could "read" how he feels, but it is also bad cuz you could loose a friend.
