being deep is good when you have one or two Great players..having 12 decent players wont get you far..plus they lost JR Smith for this year

JR Smith isn't even very good and they replaced him with Rudy Fernandez and Corey Brewer so that's not a loss. The Nuggets have a lot of young talent and some players primed to have breakout seasons (Lawson, Gallo, Afflalo to name a few). They were also the best defensive team in the league last season after the Melo trade. Playing great D and being fresh when other teams aren't will get you far.
