Sports Illustrated, Slam, Bill Simmons have all said this.

At the end of James' career he would have surpassed Duncan, but his achievements don't compare yet.

Not even a question for Kobe or Shaq tbh. Shaq had the best prime of any of them, but he didn't have the longevity.

No point comparing Duncan and Kobe because Duncan's the obvious winner; higher PER, more win shares, more defensive shares, more MVPs, more Finals MVPs, better individual performances (when contextualized i.e. the Playoffs; just look at his numbers in the '03 Finals, dude put up 32/20/7/3/7 and 21/20/10/8]; won with less talent (never won with an All-NBA player, Kobe has never won without one); better leader and teammate (way better leader and teammate), never missed the Playoffs or won less than 50 in the regular season, was the best player on his team for all of his team's championships (Kobe was for 2), the list goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on.

Oh, and Kobe/Shaq won 1 of their rings because the game(s) were rigged.

the people who dont know that duncan > kobe, just havent been paying attention. 5 rings wouldve deaded the conversation entirely.

Yeah, had Duncan been drafted to the Knicks and Kobe to San Antonio, everybody would be saying Duncan > Kobe (rightfully so).

        Duncan's unbelievably underrated tbh

Duncan's '03 Playoff run is one of the three greatest ever. Kobe hasn't got a single one in the top 10 tbh.

Yup after Miami and Indiana there isn't nobody who can compete for a title.

                • I think the spurs have a really great chance to get back to the finals again this year. They 14-2 and the best team in the NBA by far.

                    • 23 points, 21 rebounds, game winning shot.

                      Tim Duncan, the greatest.

I already posted why Duncan's had a better career and is a better player...you didn't respond.

Shaq: a case could be made for either, so I don't mind if you or anyone thinks Shaq > Duncan.

I will say this: most GMs would build around Duncan. He has the longevity, he doesn't cause locker room problems, and he played defense on every possession.

                          Kobe:

-Tim has a higher PER, a metric which actually favors scorers ahead of defenders...so what does that say about how much better Duncan is?
                          -More Win Shares
                          -More defensive Win Shares
-Higher Defensive Rating (Duncan is 2nd all-time, Kobe is 248 lol)
                          -More MVPs
                          -More Finals MVPs
-Best player on his team for all of his championships
-Never missed the Playoffs (Kobe did as soon as Shaq left) or won less than 50 games, except for the lockout season
-Better leader and teammate (Phil Jackson calls Kobe uncoachable, Popovich calls Tim Duncan the greatest team-player of all-time; Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili attribute their success to Duncan's guidance, Shaq leaves because Kobe needed to be top dog)
-Won with less talent (Duncan has never won a championship with an All-NBA player; Kobe has never won without one)
-Duncan plays both offense and defense; Kobe is a great 1-on-1 defender, but other than that his defensive game is below average
-Duncan's play increases in the Playoffs (24.66 PER in the regular season; 24.91 in the Playoffs. Kobe has a PER of 23.41 in the regular season; 22.40 in the Playoffs).
-Had better individual performances; well, at least where they matter: in the Playoffs.
-The 2003 Playoffs. All that needs to be said.

In case you don't know or remember, he single-handedly beat Kobe and Shaq, coming off the Three Peat, making Kobe cry.

Kobe and Shaq had 7-8 years together and they won 3 titles. If Duncan was with Shaq for 7-8 years they'd have 7-8 titles. Would Kobe have won anything with Duncan's teammates? I say no.

                          I await your response.

                          5 ringz?
