i got a first gen and use it for class all the time. saves a ton of room in your bookbag and weight carried around. i put most of my school books on there from textbooks to other stuff i have to read. i have a few of my magazine subscriptions on there too. i love it to be honest. keeps everything in one place and it takes like 5 minutes to transfer over to a computer and if you have apple computer it takes seconds with iCloud out now. i have that and maybe like 2 books and a pen in my bookbag and its great. oh and it keeps you entertained for days if you have a boring class which is a huge plus. id definitely recommend one. once you start using it its hard to stop
