Talent shows - Dreams or a nightmare?
Thousands of people want to be famous, especially the young people. I’ve seen the talent show X-Factor which is about singing and before the show started, they showed various clips of people that didn’t sing well enough to reach the stage in the program.
I honestly don’t think they should be allowed to show that on TV because they humiliate the people that can’t sing. Some of the people sing horribly, and then the judges decide if the victim can make it, and some of the things the judges say are sometimes too personal or very mean; these things may make the victims of the show cry because the judges talk so brutally to the victims.
The program exhibits the bad ones to the whole of Denmark and I feel sorry for them because they don’t know how bad they make people feel about themselves.
The people that enter these shows really hope they can make it because it’s their dream to be a famous singer, and they want it so bad that they are willing to be humiliated in front of the whole country.
When people enter the show, they have to sign some papers that allow X-Factor to show it on TV, and I don’t think that should be legal because it’s bad enough to crush someone's dreams, so not allowing the victim to decide whether the clip of him or her on the stage should be included in the episode is not acceptable. So, of course it’s okay if the person agrees to show his bad performance on the episode, but the fact that you have to make that contract before you join the show is definitely not okay.
If you are talented enough to win, you will win some money and a record deal; that's it. I mean, if you win the show you aren’t guaranteed fame and money because the ones who won the shows from previous years are not famous and we have already forgot them, and the music they make is not being played in the radio.
I remember a group of singers on the X-factor because they sang horribly, but they were fun to watch because they had a great charisma and a great delivery, and the choice was between them and 2 sisters that sang incredibly well. The bad group of boys reached the middle of the show and I wonder why because many incredible singers got kicked out of the show instead of the bad ones.
The group was actually humiliating themselves every time they were on the stage, and I think somebody told them how bad they were and the show was just making fun of them, but they said they did not care because all they wanted was to be famous and seen. You can’t really blame the show for that, but I’d rather say that it’s the parent's fault if their child was about to humiliate himself or herself on national TV. I would tell my kids the truth about their talent if they ever considered to sign up for a TV program like that because nobody deserves to be humiliated in the way that some people have already experienced.
There you go. I might have missed some things, but everything in bold is what I corrected reading through once.
