think about it:

10x10x10x10x10x10 = 1,000,000

10x10x10x10 = 10,000


1,000,000/10,000 = 100 = 10^2



edit: when you're dividing numbers with like "bases" and "routes", you subtract the "routes".

when you're multiplying numbers with like bases and routes, you add the route.

10^2 x 10^4 = 10^6
